2.  King Philippe’s Role in Government Formation

With the resignation of Belgium’s Prime Minister Alexander De Croo after the national elections, King Philippe is now in the middle of actions aimed at forming the next government. A series of consultations with several political leaders and the naming of an informant” will help him assess the possible coalitions of parties. This can be rather long and painful, something that happened in the past when more than one year was needed to form the government. King Philippe has also held consultations with the heads of political parties in an effort to work out coalition scenarios that would avoid such a long political impasse.

3.  Challenges facing the New Government

Currently, Belgium is going through hard times politically, which demands coalition building by multiple parties to bring in a new government. The King takes an active part in this guideline, including what kind of appointments he makes so that he may assist in coalition building. His aim is a majority government which can operate the country efficiently, prosperously and govern democratically. This is a very important and sensitive task because history often sees the negotiations take in the country a long period.

King Philippe of Belgium has been highly instrumental, not only in the process of commemorating citizens who have contributed to the country but also in guiding the political process toward a new government. His role presents him as crucial to both the social and political development of the country. King Philippe remains in one of the most strategic positions to continue guaranteeing accomplishment recognition, at the same time ensuring political stability, as Belgium progresses through this period.
